RioBrand Intellectual Property repository
The RioBrand Intellectual Property repository
is the premier searchable, global, freely accessible resource for
brand information. Placing your brand - colour logos, images, animations
and sounds - on RioBrand demonstrates to the world you care for
your most valuable assets, as well as proactively helping to fend
off innocent infringement. Our global database gives branding and
trademark professionals a defensive measure designed for a fast-moving,
complex, borderless world.
RioBrand complements existing national and
regional trademark registries by extending the visibility and accessibility
of brand information. We also provide a comprehensive set of links
to online national trademark registries for conventional searching
by name within individual countries or regions. We
recommend brand owners register their brands as trademarks to gain
full legal protection.
RioBrand Brands for Sale
Within RioBrand's Intellectual Property repository
of brands, brand owners can display brands that are available for
sale, and anyone interested in purchasing a brand can see a list
of available brands with colour brand images and details of the
brand's current owners, coverage and use.
RioBrand Brands for License
The most recent addition to the RioBrand service,
the RioBrand Brands for license repository is set to become
the key freely accessible resource for information on brands available
for license. For brand owners and their agents, the Brands for
License service enables the most comprehensive brand licensing
programmes to be published, managed and controlled in real time
from digital images to sounds and animations. Potential licensees
can search freely for information using a wide variety of criteria
including: by owner/licensor and brand name; colours shapes and
symbols; and category, channel and region.
How does it work?
RioBrand's repository of brand information is stocked
and managed by brand owners (or their agents) themselves. Brand
owners retain full control of their brand images and their quality,
as well as the descriptions and classifications stored in the RioBrand
repository. Brand owners and their agents pay an initial fee to
upload brands to the RioBrand repository for a period of one year.
A renewal fee is payable annually for each brand maintained in the
repository. Data on RioBrand can be changed at any time via the
RioBrand website, at no extra charge. Full details of the fee structure

Anyone can search RioBrand's repository of brands
free of charge. Our search engine delivers full-colour brand images,
animations and sounds according to your criteria - and it's fast.
RioBrand is a fast-growing universe of brands, organised as names,
shapes, symbols, colours, sounds and animations. Users can choose
whether to search the complete database or restrict their search
to the Intellectual Property repository, Brands for Sale
or Brands for License repositories.
Trademark and intellectual property professionals
Use the RioBrand Intellectual Property repository
as a first search step - it's fast and free. We use standard WIPO
classifications as further optional ways of describing and searching
for brands, in line with industry practice. And you can help your
clients achieve global visibility for their brands by adding them
to the RioBrand repository on their behalf.
Brand licensees
Use the RioBrand Brands for License repository
to search freely for information on brands available for license
using a wide variety of criteria including: by owner/licensor and
brand name; colours shapes and symbols; and category, channel and
region.
About the company
RioBrand is backed by a consortium of private investors.
The site was first made available to selected customers in November
2000, and launched publicly in February 2001.
RioBrand is a corporate member of INTA (the International
Trade Mark Association).
Management team
Thomas Golsong, Chief Executive
Thomas Golsong originated the RioBrand concept.
He was formerly the Corporate Identity Manager at BP Amoco.
Thomas was responsible for the creation and implementation
of the new BP brand identity launched in 2000. He was a judge of
the UK Design Effectiveness awards (sponsored by the Design Business
Association and Marketing Week) in 1998 and 1999.
Thomas was born in France and is fluent in many
European languages.
David Castle, IP Director
David Castle is the Senior Partner of Castles, the
UK trademark attorney firm he founded in 1986.
David is a member of the European Trade Mark Practitioners
Association, Marques (European Trade Mark Owners Association), the
Pharmaceutical Trade Mark Group and INTA (the International Trade
Mark Association).
Chris Pring, Brand Director
Chris Pring is the owner of Bullitt, the UK design
and communications consultancy he co-founded in 1986. Bullitt creates
brand and corporate identity management systems that are recognised
within the industry as amongst the best in the world.
Paul May, IT Director
Paul May founded independent ecommerce consulting
practice Verista in 1999, after founding and leading the ecommerce
practice at ECsoft.
Paul is the author of The Business of Ecommerce:
from Corporate Strategy to Technology (New York, Cambridge University
Press, 2000) and Mobile Commerce: Opportunities, Applications
and Technologies of Wireless Business (New York, Cambridge University
Press, 2001).
